First Fruits
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. Leviticus 23:10 (NKJV)
A first fruit offering is a special offering presented to GOD in appreciation for His provision. GOD called His people to bring the first produce of their harvest. It typically was given every harvest time showing their gratitude for all GOD had given them. The Israelites would give of their first fruits prior to harvesting any of the crops for themselves.
The people of Israel were agricultural people, so every time they had an increase in their harvest, they gave first fruits. We may not be working in an agricultural today, but we can still fulfill first fruit offerings every time we experience an increase. This can be presented in various ways. Here are some examples for presenting a first fruit offering:
When the LORD opens the door for a new job
When you received a raise
Your first paycheck of the year
The first fruit of your talent to the LORD
The first fruit of your time every day to the LORD
First fruit offerings are a way to show GOD that HE is first in your life. Seek the LORD in prayer and ask Him what HE would have you give, then in obedience, give with a cheerful heart.
But seek first the kingdom of GOD and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
